The goal of this project is to provide a consciousness-raising resource which empowers young people to find answers to their own questions through self-examination. In other words, this curriculum is about enabling more so than instructing, and about examining our scruples, ethics and fundamental beliefs.
This curriculum aims to do just as the title reads:
R – Create RESPECT for oneself and others
E – EMPOWER youth to believe in themselves
A – Provide an accessible tool for helping youth to take ACTION for change
C – Instill COURAGE and strength to face any of life’s challenges
H – Inspire HOPE and a sense of purpose in life
Its goal is to inspire youth who are going through difficulties and need access
to a ‘tool’ to help them not just to ‘get over’ their issue temporarily, but to achieve long-term
sustainability. It is also aimed at providing instructors with facilitation notes
to assist with the delivery of activities in the classroom.
The activities are targeted at junior high school and high school students. Where
applicable, it can also be applied to mid-to-senior elementary school children.
The production of “Your Victory Is My Victory” is the launch pad for this
curriculum and an exciting partnership between Free The Children, Me to We
and SGI Canada.
Me to We is a social enterprise that promotes social responsibility through
leadership programs in North America. Me to We will be using this curriculum
through its leadership programs, domestically and potentially internationally.
SGI and Me to We share a very similar philosophy of fostering global citizens and
empowering youth, emphasizing the importance of education and contributing
to a peaceful world.
Both organizations are dedicated to helping young people
develop compassion and empathy, while also educating young people. While SGI
focuses on inner development and creating value in daily life, Me to We focuses
on raising awareness around social issues, providing opportunities for education
to those living in developing communities, and helping youth take action. The
curriculum draws on the strengths of both organizations.
SGI Canada’s curriculum team has assembled young people from across Canada
to create a curriculum around the theme of hope. This curriculum will be
implemented in Me to We programs where experienced and skilled facilitators
will assist youth in developing their leadership skills and learning more about
how to take action in their lives.
